ABSTRACT

The Armstrong Work Industries (AWI) Digital Transformation governance model includes six components that align with the Strategic Information Technology (IT) Governance 2.0 model. This chapter explores why AWI decided to embark on a digital acceleration strategy and how it utilized the first three – executive sponsorship, business/IT partnership, and strategic alignment – as the foundation to its digital acceleration program. To help enable the AWI digital strategy, the IT organization would need to be a critical component in developing the technology strategy and implementing the operational technology components. Dawn Kirchner-King is Vice-President and Chief Information Officer. Kirchner-King understands how leveraging technology strategically can drive innovation leading to successful business outcomes that improve AWI’s competitive position in the ceiling and wall solutions industry. Kirchner-King believes that all IT personnel who interface with the business have a Business Relationship Manager (BRM) responsibility. Strategic BRMs are assigned at the focus area level and aligned to an executive within the business.
