ABSTRACT

A business that institutionalizes a governance culture and focuses on process optimization, project alignment, and leadership excellence exemplifies the core tenets of Strategic Information Technology (IT) Governance 2.0. The Andersons is such a company. Tony Lombardi – Chief Information Officer (CIO) and his IT team spearheaded the transformational change supporting the agriculture supply chain company growing to an $8 billion business. The company buys, stores, and sells grain as a key value-added contributor within the agriculture supply chain. The Andersons supply chain is complex. One of the challenges for any CIO looking to create a strategic IT governance process that transcends the information technology organization’s boundaries is to create information transparency. Developing a governance culture within The Andersons involved much patience, guidance, and leadership. Most importantly, executive management, middle management, and personnel across the business are committed to recognizing that governance is a strategic initiative that requires project alignment, process, optimization, and leadership excellence.
