ABSTRACT

Due to the confluence of an ageing population, rapid rise in chronic conditions and the increase in technology use, healthcare delivery costs are escalating. This has led many to investigate strategies and approaches to ensure that high-quality care ensues which is not unaffordable to all. In such a context, value-based healthcare, the need to provide high-quality outcomes for a given cost, has become a strategic imperative in many OECD countries and irrespective of the type of healthcare system. Integral to providing value-based healthcare is the identification of the business value of information technology and the enabling role of digital health solutions.
