ABSTRACT

The quality chasm in healthcare delivery has been noted by numerous groups in various countries. There is often quality variance between regional, remote and metro regions as well as within these respective areas. The reasons for the variance in quality are multi-dimensional in nature; however, there exist tools and techniques that have been developed, admittedly originally in other domains such as manufacturing, that can be utilsed to effect higher quality, efficient, effective and efficacious healthcare operations. The focus of this chapter is on such tools and techniques and how they can be best leveraged in healthcare contexts to enable superior, high-quality care to ensue.
