ABSTRACT

The digital transformation of business and industry has been a significant factor in the 21st century. If we look back to the agrarian age, labour and land determined or was the primary contributor to GDP, while in the industrial age, it was land, labour and capital. In today’s digital or knowledge age, data is a critical raw material and as technologies and techniques have advanced, we are more able to process these data into pertinent information and germane knowledge. Healthcare is probably the most data-rich industry, so it behoves healthcare to transform these raw data assets into meaningful, useful and useable information and knowledge. Contemporaneous with the rise in the importance of data has been the exponential growth and development in digital technologies. In the last 20 years, we have seen the digital transformation totally change banking, retail shopping and manufacturing. Healthcare, while a noted laggard, has now also been touched by this digital transformation which has given birth to the field of digital health. This closing chapter serves to bring together all the key points noted throughout this work and suggest strategies and techniques for delivering successful and superior digital health solutions.
