ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a general introduction to digitalization in engineering as well as an overview of the digital terminology used throughout this work. Recent advances and technologies of digitalization in dam, rock, river and coastal engineering disciplines are provided, together with an outlook of future trends in these fields, such as digital twins and AI.
