ABSTRACT

In the final chapter, the authors summarize the secondary impact of COVID-19 on marginalized populations due to the use of technology for nearly every aspect of daily living. The chapter discusses the barriers to use, burdens in adoption, and trouble with accessibility. The barriers of use are also discussed across the social determinant of health domains, in connection with the twin pandemics, and in relation to the increase in mental health concerns. A full picture of the social determinants of health domains are introduced, connected to the ecology theory and showcasing technology as a super social determinant. Readers gain insight into the important empowering opportunities technology has enabled where they did not previously exist. These opportunities beg the question of sustainability (in implementation and use) post COVID-19
