ABSTRACT

Access to many of the normal preventative health services was slightly more difficult, due to social distancing and stay-at-home orders. One important preventative activity was to visit healthcare providers for routine check-ups. However, elective surgeries were halted, and routine checks were often moved to digital health offerings, where available. The stress of the pandemic increased need for mental health services, which aided to increase the growth of the mobile applications industry. Several mental health apps were introduced. Digital health was widely accepted nationally and globally to enhance the effectiveness of the healthcare system, but the digital divide was exacerbated for socially vulnerable populations. This chapter discusses the opportunities and burdens telehealth and health related mobile applications presented for some during the pandemic
