ABSTRACT
Increasingly, companies are adopting slow steaming to save fuel costs. In the bulk carrier market, it is quite normal for ship owners and charterers to instruct the vessel to move at slow or economy speed towards their destination. In this chapter, we will look at what slow steaming means, the effects of slow steaming on the ship’s machinery, and why marine engineers need to be on guard during slow steaming periods.
