ABSTRACT

Even the most durable systems can be rejected by the end users if the systems in use have usability issues. Evidently, usability must be perceived as a prerequisite for the success of durable systems. In this light, the present chapter peruses the need to integrate usability as an integral feature in enhancing the durability of the software. To this end, the chapter aims at clarifying the basic evaluation of software usability for durability estimation, which will be revisited in future chapters. The roadmap etched for this chapter includes the understanding of the fundamental principles of usability with respect to durability; discussing user-based, inspection-based, and model-based evaluations; and proposing a unified usability management framework from the perspective of durability.
