ABSTRACT

To promote the successful development of Green Building (GB) projects, it is necessary to understand the differences between GBs and non-GBs, not only in terms of the project outcomes but also in terms of the project development process. In simple terms, such inquiry can help understand what makes GBs special. Using the interview findings of 25 GB experts, 29 conditions differentiating GB developments from non-GB developments are identified and grouped into ten themes which are about project goals; budget and time; design methodology; project documentation; flow of project information; team procurement; team collaboration; timing of project activities; project complexity; and project inspection, monitoring, and control. These differentiating conditions and their interrelationships help understand why the traditional way of project development may not be used for GB projects.
