ABSTRACT

For the successful development and operation of Green Building (GB) projects, the non-technical and management-related aspects have much importance. Accordingly, this chapter investigates the social success conditions of GB projects and their interrelationships. The chapter provides a detailed account of 35 success conditions and 39 sub-conditions identified by 75 industry experts from Australia, the UK, the UAE, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Pakistan. These social success conditions are about the client's characteristics; cooperation among project stakeholders and their interest in the project; education of project team, client, and end-users regarding sustainable development and use of GBs; team authorities, responsibilities, and contractual relationships contributing to project performance; team mindset, priorities, characteristics, collaboration, and commitment to the project; and team procurement methodology. These success conditions also indicate the approaches to improve cohesion and collaboration among project stakeholders, increase their awareness about GB development and operation, and stimulate in them a drive towards the vision of successful project development. GB project performance is dependent on the interest of the project team and decision-makers in sustainable performance, their understanding of the process of sustainable project development, and their capability to steer the project towards aspired goals.
