ABSTRACT

John and the team address training needs, the project staff assignment process, they discuss the need to acquire auditing tools, and the importance of building camaraderie while working remotely, including having periodic face-to-face meetings. There is friction in the report writing and editing processes. John meets additional senior leadership team members and learns about weaknesses in audit practices, issues involving product quality, challenges affecting IT and construction projects, and is alerted to problems abroad. Book club is introduced. John turns client-management issues involving audit observations and data requests into teachable moments and shows his managers how to address the immediate problem while improving communication skills. The team creates a Risk and Controls Matrix (RCM) to revamp audit programs by moving away from their recurring compliance focus and introducing risk-based thinking and testing procedures; they share the results with the client. John explains the importance of mission and vision statements.
