ABSTRACT

This long chapter is devoted to all facets of image filtering, both linear and non-linear, in the spatial or frequency domain and its many applications in image processing. This includes the definition and implementation of image convolution, Fourier transform, low-pass and high-pass filters, first-order and second-order derivative filters, adaptive window filters, recursive filters (edge detection, Deriche and Canny filters), and nonlinear smoothing using non-linear isotropic diffusion PDE's. Applications in 2D and 2D+t are proposed to illustrate the algorithms.
