ABSTRACT
Core data science competencies are essential to leveraging digital capabilities in a quickly transforming industry. For data science to be integrated with business operations, it must be reproducible and follow a clear workflow from problem statement to data product. Two additional capabilities in data science that are of value to water management are spatial and textual data analysis. Spatial analysis capabilities in R provide extensive abilities to analyse and visualise spatial data. For data science to be integrated with business operations, it must be reproducible and follow a clear workflow from problem statement to data product. Being a data scientist is not only about learning how to code but also how to leverage the workflow to create useful data products.
