ABSTRACT

This chapter gives us a brief knowledge of point groups and space groups. There are conventions to label axes in a space group and graphical representation of symmetry elements have also been dealt with. Point groups, Bravais lattice and different possible lattice types give rise to 230 space groups. Space groups are formed by adding elements of translation to the point groups. The space symmetry element, screw axis and glide planes are derived from point symmetry elements, rotation axes and mirror planes by adding translation.
