ABSTRACT

High temperature superconductors have been discovered. If the cooled superconducting sample is placed in a uniform magnetic field, the magnetic flux lines do not penetrate the sample. The basic principles such as Meissner effect, specific heat, isotope effect, etc have been dealt with in detail. Superconductors with Bi, Tl and La have also been discussed. Superconductors without Cu and lanthanides have also been studied. The mechanism of superconductors has been explained by BCS theory. Organic superconductors of TTF – TCNQ type and fullerenes such as K3C60 have also been dealt with. Superconductors have applications such as powerful electromagnet, MRI, frictionless train.
