ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the metal cutting process with modeling to understand the function served by the cutting fluids. Cutting fluids serve a large number of functions in a machine shop. The different methods the fluids serve have been detailed with the necessary practical information. The formulation of the cutting fluids therefore has to take the function into account. In addition, there are a number of ways in which the cutting fluid is applied with a brush, as a copious quantity flooding, a high-pressure jet, or as a mist in combination with compressed air. In addition, the direction in which the cutting fluid applied plays an important role in enhancing the machining quality.
