ABSTRACT

146This lab introduces the student to the methodologies involved in the testing of raw milk from large and small ruminant species. Although it is recognized that there are federal and state regulations in place for testing milk for human consumption, there is often a need as part of the diagnostic medical work-up for veterinarians to conduct point-of-care as well as laboratory testing in large animal species including small ruminant species.

This lab addresses the following Veterinary Technology Students Essential and Recommended Skills List as set forth by the AVMA-CVTEA in Appendix I, Section 6 – Laboratory Procedures:

Collect milk samples

Conduct mastitis testing (CMT, Culture)
