ABSTRACT

People living and working in modern societies generally have little difficulty recognizing electrical equipment—electrical equipment is everywhere and (if one pays attention to his or her surroundings) is easy to spot. Despite its great importance in our daily lives, however, few of us probably stop to think what life would be like without electricity. Like air and water, we tend to take electricity for granted. But we use electricity to do many jobs for us every day—from lighting, heating, and cooling our homes to powering our televisions and computers. Then there is the workplace—can we actually perform work without electricity?
