ABSTRACT

So, why are we discussing AC theory in this chapter when we all know that EVs are driven by batteries and batteries deliver DC electricity to the prime movers (electric motors) of the EV vehicle? Well, that question is what this chapter is all about and about to answer.

First, it is magnetism, whether AC or DC is the result is not important when it comes to powering today’s EVs.

Why?

Well, the truth be told the EV can be powered by either DC or AC electrical power.

Well, an EV has a rechargeable battery—and that batteries produce DC electricity, so where does the AC power come into play?

Ah! And now we have reached the gist, that is, the point of this segment of our discussion. So, we know that an electric vehicle usually has an on-board rechargeable electrical storage unit. Generally a lithium-ion battery that works as the source of power for an electric motor powers the electric vehicle into motion.
