ABSTRACT

The production, storage, and transport of the male gamete, the spermatozoon, are the main functions of the reproductive system in the male. It is also responsible for the production of the male sex hormone, testosterone. The histological structure of the testicles, the duct system, and the ejaculatory organ, the penis, are described in the chapter, as well as that of the accessory glands, responsible for the production of suitable fluid medium to transport the spermatozoa during ejaculation in the female reproductive tract. The peculiarities of the male reproductive system of birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish are also reviewed.
