ABSTRACT
Muscle cells (aka myocytes, myofibres, or muscle fibres) are very specialised contractile cells present in the wall of hollow organs, the skeletal muscles, and the heart. In this chapter, a thorough description of the smooth, striated (skeletal), and cardiac (myocardium) muscles is included. Clinical correlates of infectious, parasitic, and neoplastic diseases are described.
