ABSTRACT

This chapter uses a broad definition of innovation and creativity, not just inventing something new, to introduce key concepts in what leads to innovation and creativity and how to solve tough problems. Through understanding key principles in what fosters innovation and creativity, we see that although some people are inherently more creative and innovative than others, each of us can increase our capacity for innovation and creativity. As with productivity, there is an element of attention management that is key to fostering our innovative and creative capacity. This chapter includes practical advice on how we can manage our attention and expose ourselves to new ideas and creative environments to increase our capacity for innovation, creativity, and solving tough problems. These practical ideas are reinforced by real-world examples from the author's career.
