ABSTRACT

The first job that comes to most people's minds when they think about the board game industry is game designer. It is the highly romanticized creative role most people gravitate toward. They've played lots of different games and want to try creating one themselves. Designing games for a living is equal parts exciting and scary. One of the biggest benefits of working freelance as a game designer is freedom. In order to get our games signed with publishers, we often have to make arrangements with them to meet, travel to conventions, and spend a fair chunk of money along the way. Many who want to become professional game designers quickly find out that it's hard to support themselves when their income fluctuates so much.
