ABSTRACT

We understand any technology/manufacturing process in the industry can be termed as sustainable industry if there is constant development in the process to enhance energy conservation and environment protection. This chapter covers development in energy conservation approach in dewaxing and deoiling processes, the processes followed in lube base oil production and wax production respectively. Four energy savings technologies which are in wide applications have been discussed in this chapter, for example, pinch technology is application in the heat exchangers network where optimizing the network results in heat energy savings in the process. Simultaneous deoiling is one kind of innovation where an integrated process is used for the scenario when there is a scope of manufacturing lube base as well as wax simultaneously due to the feedstock quality/composition advantage and thus applying this integrated process which again results in heat energy, electrical energy, fuel energy savings, i.e. overall energy savings. Membrane separation as detailed in the chapter shows there is again overall energy savings due to getting the separation by applying pressure energy only thereby saving huge heat energy requirement. Catalytic processes as understood from the details in this chapter that application of right catalyst results in huge energy savings where in addition to lube base oils various fuel products are also produced as by-products but except wax which is not produced in this process.
