ABSTRACT
Lube base oil which is the main component of lubricant and wax has been discussed in detail in respective chapters of this book, but from chapters on preliminaries and on lubricant and greases, we understood that the subject, tribology, plays the most important role in producing lubricant or greases from lube base oil. This chapter highlights only the principles of tribology and covers its application in a nut shell as the subject is vast enough to study through a complete book on the subject. In this chapter, principles of tribology have been discussed in text as well as through figures and mathematical expression. Also, its relation to its application in lubricant and grease manufacturing have been referred to Chapter 3 as mentioned in this chapter.
