ABSTRACT
With the perspective to cover environment protection aspect in this book, environment friendly technologies/processes have been discussed in this chapter. For example, principles, classification and production of different grades of bio-lubricant have been discussed; disposal of spent lubricant is a challenge to the environment, accordingly, many processes have been developed to recycle the spent lubes and found commercial applications, the chapter covers in a nut shell these different processes; also, long time research on development of ionic liquids to use the same as lubricant since a few decades have recently found its commercial viability in many cases in the lube industry. The chapter covers this in a nut shell because examples of commercial are fewer as compared to other processes as discussed in previous chapters. Only, there are lots to know on the principles which the readers should know referring books on the subject, and hence, compilation on this has been avoided.
