ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces cellular mobile systems design and planning principles, which are not usually found in the common literature, even though it is part of the role of the engineer who works for a cellular phone service provider. A network consists of a collection of communication links and nodes through which information is transported. Any organization that makes use of such resources should be able to manage them effectively in order to supply high-standard services to their subscribers. The chapter focuses on cell planning, one of the most promising and interesting subareas of network planning. Cell deployment may be determined based on a particular cluster type, on coverage, traffic distribution and propagation environment. The planning process involves grouping data, such as, statistics, maps, service demand, and other relevant information, which are obtained by carrying out interviews and calculations.
