ABSTRACT
This chapter presents some interesting cases of cybercrimes that caused some commotion around the world. A cybercrime is a criminal activity that either targets or uses a computer, a computer network, or a networked device. Pegasus, which became operational in 2016, is capable of reading text messages, tracking calls and location, collecting passwords, accessing the target device’s microphone and camera, and harvesting information from several software applications. The spyware, a Trojan horse that can infect cellphones, is named after the mythical winged horse Pegasus. A cyberattack on one of the companies that host the Internet’s Domain Name System, a directory of Internet addresses, took down many of the Internet’s most popular sites, including Twitter, Netflix, Paypal, and Spotify. Bitfinex was, at the time, the world’s largest dollar-based exchange for bitcoin, known in the digital currency community for having deep liquidity in the dollar and bitcoin currency pair.
