ABSTRACT

Systems based on heterogeneous multi-processor architectures have been recently exploited for a wide range of application domains, especially in the System-on-Chip form factor. This chapter focuses on dedicated systems, i.e., a digital electronic system with an HW/SW custom architecture that is specifically designed in order to satisfy a priori known application requirements. When the mapping/architecture item proposed by the design space exploration is satisfactory, there is the need to implement the system by means of suggested processors, memories, and interconnections. The initial population is randomly generated, while, during the evolution of the population, the algorithm performs the optimizations that minimize the cost function following the classical rules of genetic algorithms.
