ABSTRACT

Heterogeneous network architecture with low-power stations such as picocells, femtocells, and relays is one of the promising approaches to support enormous traffic demand and to provide ubiquitous quality of service (QoS) aware service. The deployment of femtocells is actively considered by the mobile industry. Femtocells or home eNodes (HeNBs) are the small BSs with low transmit power to be used to provide coverage for home or office users. Usually, the conventional BS deployment involves careful radio frequency planning considering coverage, interference issues, and QoS provisioning. In centralized setting, the central femto BS controller called HeNB-GW collects the networks statistics from both macrocell and femtocell networks such as macrocell network load, number of active femtocells, distribution of SINR of macrocell and femtocell UEs, time-of-day, etc.
