ABSTRACT

The sustenance and growth of the organization depends on the performance rendered by its employees. Employees come to work in the organizations primarily to earn a livelihood for themselves and their families. The top management needs to put in place facilities that would enable managers to better manage the performance of the individuals. Productivity is the amount of work done per unit time. Unit time is usually set as a person day, that is, a person working for one normal work day which usually consists of 8 working hours. Organizations accorded very low importance and more or less, stopped measuring the performance. Working conditions have drastically been improved owing manly due to the two-factor theory of Herzberg, and the treatment of working people improved so drastically, that the present-day treatment has no similarity, whatsoever, with that of the 1970's and the 1980's.
