ABSTRACT

In order to analyze performance of communication systems characterized with communication channels with fading, it is necessary to define probability density function of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at the system receiving end. This chapter gives detailed analyses of bit error rate (BER) and ergodic capacity performances, for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) amplify-and-forward, variable gain (AF VG) relay systems with subcarrier permutation (SCP). In addition to the statistics of ordered random variables, a relation existing between the system end-to-end SNR and the harmonic mean of two random variables is also included in the presented algorithm. It can be concluded that the performance analysis of the OFDM AF VG relay system with SCP, from the point of the achievable capacity, additionally approves the conclusions obtained through their BER performance analysis. Despite a certain difference among them, the BER values obtained through the previously described approximations can be considered as valid for performance analyses.
