ABSTRACT
Security threats and attacks are as old as human race. The biggest impact on daily life happens when security threatens means to which life of common people is dependent. Today wireless technology and Internet have penetrated so deep in human society that many lives are dependent on it. To penetrate deep in human life, mobile communications has taken the path toward being open in terms of platform and technology used, and in bringing true Internet to the mobile terminal with its next generation mobile network (NGMN). The technologies making this happen are Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) based on IEEE 802.16 and third generation partnership project (3GPP) evolved packet system. This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book describes NGMN system and its requirements. It explains 3GPP and WiMAX standardization. The book focuses on security for Femto, machine-to-machine communication and mobile broadcast and multicast services.
