ABSTRACT

The Corporate social responsibility (CSR) literature has so far paid disproportionate attention to CSR integration in larger organizations and has primarily focused on manufacturing/production companies. The company’s geographical location and decisions on expansions and relocations of production facilities are heavily influenced by international, environmental laws and the environmental approval processes in the specific countries. Many service companies initially had to design and develop their own CSR approach, as little empirical knowledge of CSR integration was targeted service companies, and because service companies could not directly adapt the CSR approaches and integration models that production companies applied. The lack of communication of public CSR internally and externally is probably due to the fact that government agencies already have a social, ethical, and sustainable role in society. The issue to consider in communicating and making CSR visible, is of course that public display of sustainability will be subject to some level of scrutiny and criticism.
