ABSTRACT

AlYahya never allowed herself to feel limited by her circumstances, however, and her father’s advice that one can find knowledge anywhere was central to how she approached her education and later her work. While at King Saud University, AlYahya began taking online courses in artificial intelligence, which eventually became the focus of her graduate studies. At Samba, one of the areas that fascinated AlYahya was a project for the website of Tadawul, the newly launched Saudi Stock Exchange. Colleagues warned that she wouldn’t be accepted as a manager, so she decided to deploy the same strategy she used at Tadawul and worked to build their trust. Lee says there is still room for improvement in terms of both recruiting women to enter the STEM and computing fields, retaining them, and having them rise through the ranks and enter leadership roles.
