ABSTRACT

The Gestalt school of thought started around 1912. More than a century later, Gestalt psychology continues to inspire research into vision science and cognitive neuroscience. The principles can be used to improve the composition in a presentation or on the design of a poster, a warning message, website, or infographics. Being aware of and implementing the principles of Gestalt theory can have the effect of making visualizations feel stronger and more coherent. Habituation is an important survival mechanism because it allows organisms to save their energy for relevant threats. Semiotics is a learned and a shared conceptual connection in all uses of signs. There is a growing amount of activities using semiotic theory related to privacy and data protection. There are several initiatives to make law more accessible, more useable, and more engaging through legal design.
