ABSTRACT
A metaphor is a way of describing something by relating it to something else. It usually refers to common characteristics between the two. This common characteristic can relate to a physical similarity, its history, or its constituent parts. There are endless possibilities to bring cybersecurity concepts to life through metaphors. This chapter presents a picture which explains that C-suite leaders in energy should look beyond just IT and operations to enhance their organization's security posture. The temple is a metaphor where five pillars and the three-layered foundation hold up the roof that is ‘trust’. If one of the pillars is unstable, the roof might collapse. The Data Science Hunting Funnel was created to illustrate a workflow for security researchers and data scientist to help reduce their dataset and have the best likelihood of identifying malicious traffic and also attempt to set expectations.
