ABSTRACT
This chapter enumerates a number of chemicals in our environment that are among the top ten agents posing a human health risk on a global scale. Among these are certain toxic metals that bioaccumulate in marine organisms, volatile compounds generated by combustion processes, and acutely or chronically hazardous pesticides. That these chemicals pose a significant risk has been long recognized, yet the topicality has been fading in the media.
