ABSTRACT

The subject Agronomy deals with principles and practices of soil, water and crop management for higher and sustainable production. Similarly nutrient requirement varies from crop to crop, sometimes, from variety to variety. Similarly, without the knowledge of mathematics, water management is hardly understandable to the students. The volume and mass relationship of soil, efficiency of water application, irrigation requirement of crops etc. require systematic calculations. The success of chemical weed management depends upon accurate application of herbicides. Overdose will kill the crop and underdose will fail to control the weeds. Likewise efficiencies of weed management practices are judged by various indices which require elaborate numerical exercises for better understanding of the indices. Assessment of land use and yield advantage helps in adoption of proper crop sequence as well as proper crop mixture in suitable proportion. Growth and development study is required to understand the effect of various management practices on crop growth.
