ABSTRACT

The chapter discusses the implementation of a smart city program in Santa Rosa, Brazil, with the goal of improving the quality of life of citizens, increasing urban efficiency and effectiveness, and addressing social and environmental challenges. The city has a high human development index and a strong economy centered around soy cultivation. Researchers from Unijuí University and Federal University of Juiz de Fora are collaborating with the local government to develop an Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure using the LoRa communication network, allowing for the interconnection of devices and sensors and storage of data in the local cloud. This chapter presents different aspects of this collaborative research effort.
