ABSTRACT

Phones are clearly superior to finding the person in person, but, nevertheless, their methodology in Hospitals involves severe inefficiencies and are hence great time eaters. The paging system is worse, for there’s no one even to speak to, yet you still have to wait for the paging line to pick up. Then, pager return times take anywhere between a few minutes to never. If the matter is urgent, you still must, out of courtesy, wait for a return call for a certain time interval, ranging some minutes to a quarter of an hour, then warily page again while wondering if someone will be annoyed at you for paging at half-hour intervals. Faxes are generally pervasive so, in addition to saving the Ward fax, you need destination faxes saved. A tricky one, for there’s usually one Allied Health Team member you look for in particular and they carry a pager.
