ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book presents a proposal for a home wireless platform for the elderly, in view of changing demographic trends, widening public policy objectives, and continuing developments in emerging technologies. It also presents a forward-looking overview of the social influences shaping technological adoption and how society in turn affects technological development. The book casts new light on user-centric design and demand-pull strategies. It discusses a key emerging technology, RFID — its technical aspects, markets and unique potential. It explores its many applications, advantages, and functionalities before addressing its limitations. The book sets out the main challenges in networking the home, before presenting the background and objectives of the home system for elderly care, known as the AGE@HOME Platform. It explores the new frontiers of digital living.
