ABSTRACT

In the context of the UK Government's target of net zero by 2050, which naturally includes the construction industry as a large emitter of carbon dioxide, the chapter outlines the thermal conductivities of key building elements currently required by the UK Building Regulations for each of the four nations. The chapter also anticipates the new Future Homes Standard which comes into force in 2025. The embodied carbon of standard construction materials is listed as many of the newer products described in subsequent chapters have considerably lower ecological impacts.
