ABSTRACT

Security is undoubtedly one of the most indispensable concerns within a vehicular networking environment. This becomes even more of an issue with the recent ever-growing desire to make vehicles more and more intelligent and seamlessly connected to the Internet. This desire has over the time led to the evolution of VANETs into IoV networks. Chapter 1, therefore, brings forth the state-of-the-art in intelligent transportation systems (ITS) together with a summary of the research challenges surrounding the next-generation ITS architectures. It highlights the two open key issues addressed in this book and the considerable significance of addressing the same to guarantee a trusted IoV network which can facilitate in realizing a safe deployment of futuristic connected and autonomous vehicles.
