ABSTRACT

This chapter presents various important aspects of maintainability testing and demonstration. It covers planning and control requirements for maintainability testing and demonstration, maintainability test approaches, testing methods, preparing for maintainability demonstrations and evaluating the results, checklists for maintainability demonstration plans, procedures, and reports, problems, and references. The planning and control requirements for maintainability testing and demonstration covered are developing a demonstration plan, creating a demonstration model, following MIL-STD-471 guidelines, providing appropriate manpower, specifying parameters, and taking environment into account.

Eleven testing methods are covered in the chapter including the mean method, the critical percentile method, and the man-hour rate method.

There are ten problems at the end of the chapter to test the reader’s comprehension in the area. Finally, it is added that the sources of most of the material presented in the chapter are given in its reference section. This will be useful to readers if they desire to delve more deeply into a specific area of interest.
