ABSTRACT

This chapter presents various important aspects of maintenance management and control. It covers maintenance management-related principles, maintenance department organization and functions, effective maintenance management elements, questions for evaluating maintenance program effectiveness, maintenance project control methods, maintenance management control indices, problems, and references. The effective maintenance management elements covered are maintenance policy, job planning and scheduling, equipment records, material control, backlog control and priority system, work order system, preventive and corrective maintenance, and performance measurement. The maintenance project control methods covered are activity expected duration time estimation, critical path method, and critical path determination approach.

There are ten problems at the end of the chapter to test the reader’s comprehension in the area. Finally, it is added that the sources of most of the material presented in the chapter are given its reference section. This will be useful to readers if they desire to delve more deeply into a specific topic of interest.
