ABSTRACT
This chapter presents various important aspects of preventive and corrective maintenance. It covers preventive maintenance elements and a principle for selecting items for preventive maintenance, steps for developing a preventive maintenance program, preventive maintenance measures, preventive maintenance mathematical models, preventive maintenance advantages and disadvantages, corrective maintenance types, corrective maintenance steps, downtime components, and strategies for time reduction at system level, corrective maintenance-related measures, corrective maintenance mathematical models, problems, and references. The preventive maintenance measures covered are median preventive maintenance time and mean preventive maintenance time. Similarly, the corrective maintenance-related measures covered are median active corrective maintenance time and mean corrective maintenance time.
There are ten problems at the end of the chapter to test the reader’s comprehension in the area. Finally, it is added that the sources of most of the material presented in the chapter are given in its reference section. This will be useful to readers if they desire to delve more deeply into a specific topic or area of interest.
