ABSTRACT

The stamping of sheet metals can be defined as the process of changing the shape of a sheet metal blank into a useful shape in the plastic deformation state, using a die and a mechanical press. This chapter discusses the sheet metal working, i.e. bending, forming and deep drawing, the difference between punching, piercing and blanking, mechanics of the forming process, press types, construction and working, press tools, dies and punches. The automotive stamping manufacturing process and identification of major automotive components by material and process is the unique feature of this chapter.
